Kaizhou 开州区 — Blue Lake & Han Dynasty Heritage
Kaizhou sits in a broad river valley in northeastern Chongqing. The district is best known for the Hanfeng Lake (汉丰湖), a beautiful artificial lake created by the Three Gorges Dam water level changes.
The district has a rich history dating back to the Han Dynasty, with archaeological sites and ancient temples scattered across its landscape.
Kaizhou's lake has become a major recreational destination, with water sports, fishing, and lakeside parks.
A 15 sq km lake surrounded by wetlands, parks, and walking paths. The lake was formed when Three Gorges Dam water levels rose. Today it's a popular recreational area for boating, fishing, and cycling along the 36-km lakeside greenway. The lake is particularly beautiful at sunset.
