Chengkou 城口县 — Northern Frontier — Mountains & Hot Springs
Chengkou is Chongqing's northernmost and most remote county, bordering Shaanxi and Sichuan provinces in the Daba Mountains. The county's high altitude (600-2,686m) gives it a distinctly cooler climate than the rest of Chongqing.
Known for its pristine natural environment, Chengkou has some of Chongqing's best-preserved forests, hot springs, and mountain scenery. The area was historically an important trading route between Sichuan and Shaanxi.
Chengkou receives relatively few foreign visitors, making it ideal for travelers seeking off-the-beaten-path experiences.
A vast wilderness area with old-growth forests, alpine meadows, and diverse wildlife. The reserve contains rare plant species including the Davidia (dove tree) and giant pandas in its remote sections. Hiking trails range from easy walks to multi-day treks.
