Tongliang 铜梁区 — Dragon Dance Capital of China
Tongliang is nationally famous as the home of Tongliang Dragon Dance (铜梁龙舞), recognized as one of China's premier intangible cultural heritage performances. The fire-breathing dragon dance, performed during festivals, is spectacular.
The district also offers pleasant natural scenery, with the Anju Ancient Town being one of Chongqing's best-preserved traditional trading towns.
Tongliang's cultural heritage extends to traditional folk art, opera, and craftsmanship that remain active in daily life.
The iconic Tongliang fire dragon dance involves a 20-meter dragon covered in fireworks, manipulated by dozens of performers through showers of sparks. Performances are held during Spring Festival, Lantern Festival, and other major festivals. The dragon dance museum in the city center displays traditional dragon costumes and explains the 1,400-year-old tradition.
