Nanchuan 南川区 — Golden Mountain & Karst Wonders
Nanchuan's claim to fame is Jinfo Mountain (金佛山), a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most biodiverse areas in China. The mountain's unique karst formations support over 5,000 plant species.
The district is less visited than Wulong but offers equally spectacular karst scenery without the crowds. Jinfo Mountain's "three treasures" — silver-white bamboo shoots, tea, and Gastrodia elata (天麻) — are renowned across China.
Nanchuan also preserves interesting Miao ethnic minority culture in its mountain villages.
A UNESCO World Heritage site with a 2,238-meter summit featuring unique karst platforms, ancient forests, and seasonal snow. The mountain's "sea of clouds" phenomenon occurs year-round and is best viewed from the cable car. In spring, wild rhododendrons blanket the slopes. The mountain's Buddhist cave temples date back over 1,000 years.
