Banan 巴南区 — Hot Springs & Southern Suburbs
Banan covers a large area south of the main city, known for its hot spring resorts, tea plantations, and natural scenery. The district is one of Chongqing's fastest-growing suburban areas, popular with locals seeking weekend getaways.
The area has a long history — the old town of Banan was established during the Sui Dynasty — and several well-preserved historical sites remain scattered among the modern development.
Banan's hot springs are considered among the best in China, with the South Hot Spring (南温泉) having hosted historical figures including Chiang Kai-shek and US General Stilwell during WWII.
