Beibei 北碚区 — Green Lungs of Chongqing — Hot Springs & Nature
Known as Chongqing's "back garden," Beibei is a lush, mountainous district famous for its hot springs, national parks, and the beautiful Jialing River gorge scenery. The district has the cleanest air in the Chongqing metropolitan area.
Beibei's hot spring culture dates back over 1,600 years, making it one of China's oldest documented hot spring destinations. The area was also a retreat for intellectuals and artists during WWII.
The district's natural attractions include the Jinyun Mountain nature reserve, with ancient temples hidden in bamboo forests, and the Beibei section of the Jialing River with its dramatic cliff faces.
One of China's most historic hot springs, with records dating back to the Southern and Northern Dynasties (420–589 AD). The park features natural spring pools, a Buddhist temple (温泉寺), and gardens. The water temperature averages 35-37°C and is rich in minerals. Both outdoor pools and private indoor baths are available.

A 1,050-meter national nature reserve with ancient forests, waterfalls, and Buddhist temples. The mountain has seven peaks and nine scenic areas. The hike to the summit takes about 2-3 hours and rewards with panoramic views of Beibei and the Jialing River. The mountain is also home to the 1,500-year-old Jinyun Temple.

A charming riverside area along the Jialing River with walking paths, cafés, and Chongqing's famous secondhand book market. On weekends, book vendors set up stalls along the riverbank, creating a literary atmosphere unique in Chongqing.
