Dadukou 大渡口区 — From Steel City to Green Oasis
Dadukou was once dominated by the massive Chongqing Iron & Steel factory, one of the largest steel plants in western China. Today, the district is transforming from industrial zone to green residential area, with the old factory site being redeveloped into parks and cultural spaces.
The Yangtze River forms Dadukou's northern boundary, and the district has developed attractive riverside parks and wetland areas. The pace of life here is noticeably slower than central Chongqing.
Despite its industrial past, Dadukou has several cultural surprises, including one of Chongqing's best folk music museums and the beautiful Jianwen Peak scenic area.
Built on the site of the former Chongqing Iron & Steel factory, this park preserves massive steel furnaces and machinery as industrial heritage monuments. The museum tells the story of Chongqing's industrial development from the 1930s relocation of factories during the war to the modern era. A fascinating blend of heavy industry aesthetics and creative reuse.
