Rongchang 荣昌区 — Ceramics Capital & Heritage Crafts
Rongchang is famous across China for three traditional crafts: ceramics (荣昌陶), fan-making (荣昌折扇), and beef processing (荣昌卤鹅). The district's 800-year ceramic tradition produces distinctive pieces in brown and white glazes.
The Rongchang kilns have been producing pottery since the Song Dynasty, and the traditional wood-fired techniques are still practiced alongside modern production.
Rongchang also preserves one of Chongqing's most charming ancient towns, with traditional architecture and canal systems.
The museum showcases Rongchang's 800-year ceramic tradition, from Song Dynasty masterpieces to contemporary works. The adjacent ancient kiln area allows visitors to watch artisans at work and try pottery-making themselves. Rongchang ceramics are known for their distinctive red clay and traditional glazing techniques.
