Lincang 临沧 — Birthplace of Dianhong Tea — Ethnic Mosaic
Lincang (临沧) is the birthplace of Dianhong (滇红) black tea, one of China's most famous teas. Developed in 1939, Dianhong is exported worldwide. The region is also home to the Bulang and Wa ethnic minorities.
The Wa people are known for their distinctive culture including facial tattoos (on elderly women) and wooden drum ceremonies. Wengding Village is the best-preserved Bulang settlement.
Lincang is remote — a 7-hour drive from Kunming. Allow 2-3 days.
