Yueyang 岳阳 — Yueyang Tower — China's Second Largest Lake
Yueyang (岳阳) sits on the shores of Dongting Lake, China's second-largest freshwater lake. Yueyang Tower is one of China's three great towers, famous for Fan Zhongyan's essay "Memorial to Yueyang Tower" — required reading in Chinese schools.
The city has been a strategic port for 2,000 years. Dongting Lake is a birdwatching paradise in winter and the Junshan Island grows China's famous silver needle tea.
