Youyang 酉阳土家族苗族自治县 — Tribal Culture & Primeval Forest
Youyang is Chongqing's gateway to ethnic minority culture, home to the Tujia and Miao peoples. The county preserves vibrant traditions including the famous Tujia hand-waving dance (摆手舞) and distinctive stilted architecture.
The county's Gongtan Ancient Town (龚滩古镇) is considered one of the most beautiful ancient towns in southwest China, perched on dramatic cliffs above the Wu River.
Youyang's natural attractions include the Taohuayuan (Peach Blossom Spring) — inspired by the famous Tang Dynasty fable of a hidden utopian valley.
A 1,700-year-old town perched on a 300-meter cliff above the Wu River. The town's distinctive stilted wooden buildings (吊脚楼) cascade down the cliff face, creating a dramatic visual effect. The riverside setting, stone streets, and traditional Tujia architecture make this one of China's most photogenic ancient towns. Local silk embroidery is a unique souvenir.
