🏛️ Top Attractions

Mutianyu Great Wall

Mutianyu Great Wall 慕田峪长城

The most scenic and visitor-friendly section of the Great Wall, featuring watchtowers, cable cars, and a thrilling toboggan slide down the mountain. Mutianyu stretches 2.25 km with 22 watchtowers, offering incredible views of the wall winding through forested mountains. It's far less crowded than Badaling but equally magnificent. The cable car (¥120 round-trip) saves you a steep climb, while the single-rider toboggan slide (¥60) provides an exciting descent — a unique Great Wall experience. The wall here is well-restored but retains its rugged character, especially at the far ends where fewer tourists venture.

Hours: Apr–Oct 7:30–18:00 / Nov–Mar 8:00–17:00
Admission: ¥40 (Apr–Oct) / ¥35 (Nov–Mar). Cable car ¥120 R/T, Toboggan ¥60 (one-way down).

Hongluo Temple

Hongluo Temple 红螺寺

One of Beijing's oldest and most revered Buddhist temples, dating back to 348 AD. Located at the foot of Hongluo Mountain, the temple complex features ancient halls, stunning bamboo forests, and a scenic path leading to a giant statue of Buddha on the hilltop. The temple is famous for its "female bamboo" (雌竹) — bamboo shoots that grow into curved shapes, and its thousand-year-old male and female pine trees. The 500-meter climb to the hilltop Buddha statue takes about 30 minutes and offers panoramic views. Spring temple fairs draw crowds, but weekdays are peaceful. A perfect blend of spiritual atmosphere and natural beauty.

Hours: 8:00–18:00 (Apr–Oct) / 8:00–17:00 (Nov–Mar)
Admission: ¥50–60 depending on season.

Yanqi Lake

Yanqi Lake 雁栖湖

A serene 700-hectare lake surrounded by forested hills, where Beijing's annual APEC summit was held in 2014. The lake offers boating, kayaking, cycling around the shore, and spectacular sunset views. The Yanqi Lake International Convention Center is an architectural landmark, though conference facilities are not open to general public. The public park area features walking paths, a beach, and a viewing tower. It's particularly beautiful in autumn when surrounding hills turn golden. Weekends can be busy with family picnics; weekdays offer tranquil lake views. Many visitors combine Yanqi Lake with nearby Hongluo Temple.

Hours: 8:00–17:00 (Nov–Mar) / 8:00–18:00 (Apr–Oct)

Qinglong Gorge (Green Dragon Gorge) 青龙峡

A scenic gorge combining mountain hiking, lake boating, and Great Wall ruins. The site features a 600-meter-long dam creating a reservoir, with activities including bungee jumping (¥150), rock climbing, rafting, and zip-lining. An unrestored Great Wall section climbs steeply up the gorge's cliffs, offering dramatic views for adventurous hikers. Less commercialized than central Beijing attractions, Qinglong Gorge attracts adventure seekers and nature lovers. Summer weekends are popular for rafting and water activities; autumn hiking is spectacular. Allow a full day to explore both the gorge and climb the wall.
