Junliang City (军粮城) is a historically significant archaeological site located in the town of the same name in eastern Dongli District. The site's name literally means "Military Grain City," reflecting its crucial role during the Tang Dynasty (618–907 AD) as a strategic grain storage and distribution center for the imperial army defending China's northern frontiers against nomadic intrusions. At its peak during the 7th–8th centuries, Junliang City was a fortified settlement with granaries capable of storing over 100,000 tons of rice and wheat, arriving via the Grand Canal from the fertile Yangtze River Delta and distributed northward to military outposts along the Great Wall. Archaeological excavations have revealed remnants of massive stone foundations for granaries, sections of the original city walls (the base is 8 meters wide), an ancient well, and residential quarters for the garrison. Huaming Model Town is one of China's most celebrated rural-urban integration demonstration projects, located in the northern part of Dongli District. Dongli Country Park is a large ecological park covering 200 hectares in the southern part of Dongli District, opened in 2018 as part of Tianjin's "Country Park Green Belt" initiative. The park represents a recent shift in Chinese urban planning toward preserving natural green spaces within expanding metropolitan areas. Unlike the more manicured Dongli Park, Country Park emphasizes natural landscapes — wildflower meadows, reed marshes, woodland areas, and wetlands that serve as habitats for local wildlife. A network of elevated wooden boardwalks (total length 5 km) allows visitors to walk through the marsh areas without disturbing the ecosystem, with interpretive panels (in Chinese) identifying local plants and bird species.
